Martin found himself on his way to Baworo ICCES in autumn 2005. With his arrival coinciding with that of the long awaited rains, living up to the expectations of the superstitious locals would be a challenge. But Martin got fully involved with the Centre, teaching English, Maths and much else besides. He also oversaw fundraising for the construction of a new boy’s hostel and arranged work placements and industry visits for the students. Since becoming a Onechild trustee in 2006, Martin founded and now manages the scholarship programme. Martin works for the Treasury, so he also keeps a close eye on how funds are invested! Amongst other fundraising stunts for Onechild, in 2007 he cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
