Last night Onechild Ghana hosted its annual fundraising quiz night. Over a hundred friends and supporters of the charity took part, tackling questions that ranged from sport to history…with a few Ghana-specific questions naturally thrown in for good measure.

The quiz night also included a very popular raffle. Onechild Ghana is grateful to a number of local organisations and individuals for generously donating prizes.

In total, the night raised around £1000 for Onechild Ghana’s current projects, notably the construction of a new classroom building at the Twedie Centre.

Onechild Ghana trustee and quiz organiser Julie Hawkins said: “We are very grateful for the support given by quiz participants to raise funds for our important Twedie construction project. The money raised is vital in the construction of much-improved classroom facilities, supporting the vocational education of over 100 pupils.”

Keep an eye on our website for details of our next quiz night, provisionally planned for November 2012!

Onechild Ghana awards 30 scholarships for the 2011-12 academic year

18 September 2011

Onechild Ghana has awarded its scholarships for the forthcoming academic year. In light of the success of the scholarship programme since its inception in 2007, it has now been extended to include 30 scholars in 2011-12.

Onechild Ghana is paying 95% of the school fees for the carefully selected ICCES students, many of which have had their scholarships renewed to reward good academic progress. Onechild has been able to extend the programme thanks to a new partnership with registered charity, Peartree IT. Peartree are funding four scholarships – in Baworo and Tetrefu Centres – specifically for students pursuing a career in IT.

Martin Gaunt, Onechild Ghana trustee, said: “Since 2007 we have provided scholarships to over 50 students with great potential, but with no other means to fund their post-basic education. As our original scholars begin to graduate and enter the job market, we are delighted to extend the programme to welcome new students on board”.
