The Fashion Department at our school in Twedie teaches students dressmaking skills. These skills are highly valued in the wider economy and help students gain employment on graduating. However, the school didn’t have the right machines for students to learn on which prevented the teaching and development of these skills.
Working with one of our partners, Onechild Ghana has provided 15 industrial sewing machines for students to use at Twedie ICCES.
The industrial sewing machines have had an immediate impact. Students can now learn practical skills on machines that are recognised in industry – which has also helped to enhance the reputation of graduates who have trained on these machines making them more employable. In addition, the machines will enable the school to generate an income for themselves – by creating products they can sell.
