Nerebehi ICCES previously had a makeshift boys hostel, to allow boys who did not live in Nerebehi to stay on site and avoid travelling long distances to school. However, this hostel was barely fit for purpose and many parents withdrew their children from school because of the poor living conditons.
Onechild Ghana provided the funds to build a brand new boys dormitory at Nerebehi ICCES. Students studying masonry at the school built the boys hostel themselves. They gained valuable practical experience directly related to the course they are studying.
In the short term, the new hostel provided an immediate solution for the boys lodging on site and stemmed the flow of boys quitting school.
The hostel has since helped attract new students to the school who might not otherwise have received an education. In turn, this has helped generate additional school fees.
